My question is what would be the easiest way to go about adding an aux input to the radio system or if there would be an easy way of putting an aftermarket head unit in place of the one there now. I later found out that the HU is not actually a radio with the actual radio being located in the boot.įrom what i am understanding i would need to somehow (what im hoping to find out here) get an adapter or cord from the radio in the boot to the glovebox and to somehow getting it to communicate with the HU. One thing i didn't however even think about or take notice is that my unit had navigation, so when i took the head unit out, it had completely different plugs from what i was expecting. Now after looking through various forums and videos on how to do this, it seemed it was going to be a straight swap using an adapter readily available on Amazon. I recently bought a 1999 e46 320d and was looking to change the head unit to an aftermarket one. The shorter you make the ground wire, the less resistance in the system, and your amp will work better with less resistance.Completely new to the BMW world and the various forums so i do apologise if there's an obvious answer to this which i haven't found. The installers should have sanded the area where it is mounted so that it is bare metal. Ensure that the wire length is not excessive. Locate the ground (-) wire termination point from your amp to your chassis and ensure that it is touching the bare metal securely. Once you trace the ground wire to where it is mounted on your chassis, ensure it is completely touching and is tightened so that it makes direct contact with the bare metal chassis. Confirm the ground wire (-) from the amp to the vehicle chassis is secure When properly installed, the ground wire will go from the back of your amp to the chassis of the vehicle. The only information I can glean is that at 12V it runs at 48W, so presumably it is 4 amps The car battery (Exide, 44Ah) is about 6 months old and in excellent condition. The ground wire will generally be black, while the power wire will generally be red or white. They all must be on the correct input on your amp and tightly secured.
